Master Gardener Inspiration Garden Open House

Community Invited to Inspiration Garden Open House on August 1 The Jasper County Master Gardeners invite the public to attend the Jasper County Inspiration Garden Open House on Saturday, August 1, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the DMACC Newton Campus, 710 N. 2nd Ave. W., Newton. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the Garden House, Education Pavilion, Greenhouse, Donation Garden, and newly installed fountain; meet Master Gardener volunteers; and learn about future plans for this growing outdoor educational project. The Inspiration Garden features demonstration gardens showcasing horticulture, landscaping, pollinator-friendly plantings, and innovative gardening techniques. The Inspiration Garden is a collaborative effort involving Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), Iowa State University Extension and Outreach–Jasper County, Tim and Janet Onnen, and the Jasper County Master Gardeners. The multi-year project is being developed solely through community donations, grants, and Master Gardener fundraising efforts, plant sales, and volunteer hours. One of the project's longest-running features is the Donation Garden. Since 2018, volunteers have grown and donated more than 14,000 pounds of fresh produce to the Jasper County Food Pantry to help food-insecure families throughout Jasper County. A recent addition to the garden is a new fountain made possible through generous support from the Newton Rotary Club, Bruce and Bev Curtis, and Tim and Janet Onnen. Community members interested in learning more about the project, volunteering, or supporting the garden are encouraged to attend.
